Duncan Laurence şarkısının yayınlanmasının ardından şarkısının altında yatan duygu ve düşüncelerini Instagram üzerinden şu sözlerle açıkladı:
“Sizinle sonunda yeni şarkımı paylaştığım için çok heyecanlıyım. Aşk söz konusu olduğunda sınırlarımız ve limitlerimiz yoktur. Bu dünyadaki en saf şeydir ve hatta ben de dahil pek çok insan her gün aşk için savaşmak zorunda. Görünüş, inanış, cinsiyet ve cinsellikten dolayı. İnsanların onu yargılandığı şeyden dolayı. LOVE DON’T HATE IT, olduğun kişi ve sevdiğin kişi için savaşmak hakkında. Çünkü eninde sonunda bu, senin tercihindir. Bu, dünyadaki en çok istediğimiz şeyi, sevgiyi, yıkmaya çalışan nefrete cevabımdır.”
